Our Approach to Care
Atlas Orthogonal Care
At Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Buffalo, our primary focus is on the upper cervical region of your spine — specifically, the atlas bone. The atlas bone is right next to the base of your skull and your brain stem. When your head is off its center point, your entire body will try to compensate for this misalignment and you will likely experience various health-related issues. We know the considerable and detrimental impact that the alignment of the atlas bone can have on your overall health.
The Harmful Effects of Being Off-Center
Imagine holding a bowling ball close to your body. Sure, you can do it for a minute or two without any trouble. If you extended your arm, however, and tried to hold the bowling ball out from your body, it gets extremely heavy very quickly. You likely will notice your shoulder starting to ache as well as your back. In short, you can’t stay in that position for long.
Now, imagine your head as the bowling ball. When your head is off-center, it can create a cascade of problems down your entire body. Our objective is to gently and precisely correct the misalignment and re-center your head so that everything below that point can settle back into balance.
As a result, your nervous system will function optimally and your body can begin the healing process.

Providing Gentle and Specific Adjustments
When most people hear of chiropractic, they imagine a forceful or uncomfortable adjustment. They may be concerned that they’ll get “cracked” or “twisted”. That’s not necessary at our office. You won’t hear popping sounds or be placed in painful positions.
In addition to being comfortable, our corrections are highly precise because we use 3-dimensional digital X-rays to calculate a highly specific treatment vector. The adjustments are gentle and use only about 3-5 pounds of pressure to realign the atlas back underneath the skull.
Achieving and Maintaining Alignment
The goal is to get the atlas back in alignment and keep it there as long as possible with as few adjustments as possible. We have some patients who see us quarterly to get aligned while others get checked twice a year or yearly. Other patients may come in more frequently depending on the severity of their condition. Over time, many of our patients notice the difference when they’re in or out of alignment and they get checked accordingly to prevent any recurrence of symptoms.
What to Expect
Initially we will have a 15 minute consultation to see if we can accept you as a patient. Next, we will explain our fees, take any necessary X-rays, perform an extremely thorough examination, followed by our recommendation and your initial correction. Following your initial correction we may take a set of post X-rays so we can be sure the best correction possible was achieved. We then let your body go to work doing what it does best — heal itself and regulate.

Dr. Muto was very professional, easy to talk to, and uses an extremely effective chiropractic technique. He helped me with my low back and, to my surprise, with my stomach issues as well. I highly recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Muto....If you’re suffering at all you have to go see him! Professional and always communicating on what I can expect following a correction. He has helped me with my tinnitus and vertigo and even my headaches! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a gentle and effective approach.
I had been suffering with terrible hip pain that was extending down my leg into my knee. I could barely get up the stairs. I went to see Dr. Muto and he listened to everything that I had been going through. "He did an exam and adjusted me and by that night I was all ready walking up the stairs with very little pain! The office is warm, welcoming and easy to get to. I will definitely be recommending Dr. Muto to my friends and family."
"I was diagnosed with Sporadic Inclusion Body Myositis (sIBM) several years ago by a Dent Neurologic neurologist. This diagnosis was confirmed by neurologists at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Unfortunately, there is no know treatment for the disease (degenerative muscular), nor is there a known cause. All the neurologists were able to do is identify the condition, giving me no hope of any relief. I decided to respond to an ad that Dr. Muto ran in the Amherst Bee for chiropractic adjustment. Dr. Muto sent me for x-rays, which showed that my spine had some pretty serious misalignments. Dr. Muto prescribed a treatment plan, which I’ve been undergoing for about a month. I've noticed much improvement as to reduced pain level and better mobility. Although Dr. Muto can’t predict how much improvement I’ll ultimately experience, I’m very encouraged by the progress I’ve experienced thus far. I’m very impressed with the treatment I’ve received from Dr. Muto, and I highly recommend him for his professionalism and for the extra efforts he has made to treat me."
"I can't recommend Dr. Muto highly enough! I had terrible headaches combined with hip pain that wouldn't go away. I tried meds, PT, & traditional chiropractic and had no results to speak of. With Dr. Muto's upper cervical technique my pain was completely gone within a week! Plus, the treatments were completely painless."
